Supportive Work -- Guest Post

Contribution by Stevie Kirby

When I told my boss I was leaving to take a new job in Texas I was really surprised at how supportive he was. I was really worried everyone at work would be mad at me but most of them seemed genuinely excited for me to take on a new opportunity and do something more in line with what I wanted to do. My cubicle mate actually lived in Texas all through college so he had some good advice to give me about everything from www.electriccompaniesindallas.com to the type of barbecue sauce to avoid. I don’t really know what to expect – I’ve never even been to Dallas (not even for the final interview!) – I went to Austin when I was young but I know they’re really different. Anyway, I think it’s going to be a lot of fun to meet new people and be challenged with something different at work. I like my job now, don’t get me wrong, but it’s really not very stimulating and what I really want to do is sports marketing. When this opportunity came along with the Cowboys I knew I had to take it even if it did mean picking up my whole life and moving to Dallas in two-weeks time. The movers come on Saturday and I couldn’t be more pumped – I really, really can’t wait to live by myself for once in my life and see the new condo I purchased sight-unseen! Who would have thought. My parents are going to make the drive with me because it’s a long way from Chicago to Dallas and I really don’t have enough space in my car for the dog and the cat. I’m not sure they’d make it that far without one of them eating the other, anyway, so it’s going to be for the best. That way when I get to Dallas they can help me move in and I can get off to work on Monday morning!
